Painting contest to focus on girl child

HYDERABAD: The United Nations Population Fund and Centre for Media Studies are jointly organising the first ever National Painting Competition for ‘Art for social change’ awards for the final year students fine arts.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Friday, R.V.V. Krishna Rao of CMS, Srinivasachari, Head Department of Painting, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, said that the theme of the painting contest ‘Delighting in Daughters’ was chosen to highlight the positive image and message of girl child.
With the alarming decline in female sex ratio in some parts of the country due to female foeticide, UNPF chose the theme to sensitise and create social awareness through the arresting medium of art and change mindsets. About 450 participants who were short-listed , including six from the Telugu Univeristy would submit their paintings in oil and acrylic to CMS, Delhi by February 29. Prizes
The best three entries would get Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 and also 50 entries would get consolation prize of Rs. 5,000 each. The canvas for the paintings was already supplied by the UNPF, they said.
The prize winning and select paintings would also be displayed through mobile exhibitions across the country.
