Wednesday, 18.04.2007, 11:42am
HARBINGER OF a new and
progressive era in Indian literature, Premchand wholly dedicated his
writing to bring about a change in society, especially in the wretched
lives of the poor and oppressed.
He was named Dhanpatrai and also
Nawabrai when he was born [1880] in a village near Kasi but had to
adopt a pen-name as he was in government service.

Get the true picture
Tuesday, 17.04.2007, 11:28am

If Kiran Desai's Loss of Inheritance sold 70,000 -80,000 copies in the
country after winning the Man Booker Prize, Amartya Sen's The
Argumentative Indian has crossed the one-lakh mark.
