MIM poll ticket for ‘Lady Don’

Hyderabad Nov. 5: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has nominated ‘lady don’ Farha Khan for the November 23 GHMC elections from Moula Ali.
Popularly known in police circles as “lady don,” Ms Khan is an accused in several criminal cases.
Over the last couple of years, Ms Khan has been maintaining that she quit the path of crime and has been acquitted in almost all cases. She claims to have involved herself in social service for the last few years.
The city police is keeping a close watch on candidates with rowdy sheets and suspects in criminal cases.
The state election commissioner, Mr A.V.S. Reddy, said any candidate with criminal cases pending against him or her can contest.
“A candidate can be disqualified from contesting election only if he or she is convicted for a criminal offence for more than two years,” he said.
Over 850 nominations were filed on Thursday by independents and candidates belonging to various political parties. The Congress released its list of 130 candidates who will contest in the GHMC poll. The party is likely to release its second list on Friday comprising names of candidates for the remaining 20 wards.
Popular among the list of candidates released on Thursday is Mr Adam Vijay Kumar from Sitaphalmandi municipal ward which is reserved for BCs. Mr Kumar is also figures in the list of probables for the Mayor’s post.
