Pique your taste buds with hearty continental fare

BREADS `N' BAKES A yummy continental spread

At one point of time, if you were looking for continental food in the city, then you were most likely to be served an Indianised version. The real McCoy was a hard find. But this isn't the case anymore - people know their food and the ongoing Continental Food Fiesta at the Green Park's Once Upon A Time doesn't try to fool you with imitation dishes.

Starters like Chicken or Cottage Cheese fire crackers - dumpling of either tossed in a tangy tomato sauce will whet your appetite. Try Cheesy stuffed mushroom and Corn or Lamb croquettes before you head on to the main course.

The soups menu literally spans the continent. From Hungarian goulash, a lamb and pepper soup, to Potage St Germain (a French green pea soup) its all there. Please don't go looking for your staple Sweet corn soup on this menu!

The main course is where the real delight lies. Most filling main dishes are accompanied with slices of perfectly toasted and buttered garlic bread and you must resist from asking for more. The few baked and white sauce based dishes include Corn florentine, a corn and spinach bake, a broccoli bake and Chiconara, smoked chicken in white sauce.

Vegetable brochettes are a good choice too and for those keen on seafood, there's Prawn brochettes. Brochettes are a French term for skewered and grilled meat and vegetables - a tasty dish anytime.

Pasta lovers have cannelloni filled with spinach and asparagus and the Fusilli a la pesto to choose from. Now this Pesto sauce claims to have almonds and pistachios in it as well. Spaghetti with meatballs is another dish you cannot go wrong with. But the stars of the menu are the Calcanon, a mixed vegetable steak and the Lamb picatta. The vegetable steak is like the father of all cutlets- a nice big patty with a tangy BBQ sauce on the side.

This dish will definitely change your opinion of the cutlet as being a `regular' dish. As for the lamb? Just right. Well grilled, with the perfect bite and succulent in taste.

For dessert try the Cinnamon mousse. More a soufflé than a mousse, it looked rather gelatinous and wobbly, but gets full marks for its taste. A mildly flavoured cinnamon dessert with little specks of the spice in them, it made for an interesting way to round off the meal. The food festival does justice to continental food as a whole and there's even an Indonesian dish - Chicken satay, thrown in for good measure!
