What strikes you first as you pass by this place are the bright orange umbrellas. With a warm, sunny ambience to go with its al-fresco seating, Barista Crème is the hippest new destination in town. The latest addition to the Barista chain, what sets Crème apart from Barista's other espresso bars is that it offers table service and has a larger and more impressive menu.
Sunil Das, the café manager says the idea behind Crème is to establish itself as a café and to move away from associating Barista with only espresso bars. "We offer a larger variety of food, drinks and desserts at Crème. We also have a special deli counter where we make fresh sandwiches with a variety of breads and fillings." The fillings, he promises, are delivered fresh every morning and unused portions are discarded every night. The café can accommodate almost 170 people at its premises, a majority of which is outdoors, under the palm trees and the sun umbrellas.
A part of the fare is the same as the other Baristas, but that's where the similarity ends. This place has more varieties of coffee some made with premium beans from Cuba, Costa Rica, Kenya and Jamaica. The barista's here can whip up a mean cappuccino, frappes or new types of cold coffees. Rich shakes- drinks blended with desserts like apple pie, Swiss chocolate and brownies, Crispies like Jalapeno Cheese Munch and oven roasted French fries, salads, cheese melts and the deli-style sandwiches are on offer too. Desserts include a Nutty Carrot Cake with authentic American style cream frosting and the Chocolate Ooh Ze, a molten chocolate cake with a hot chocolate centre. For a double dose of sin, try the dessert combinations that come with ice cream, whipped cream and rich sauces. The specials of this month are keeping with the Valentine season and include a delicious combination of fresh strawberries with chocolate and cream. The pricing is almost on par with other cafes and some quantities are large enough for two.
The tables and sofas indoors can seat 30 people, but it's the outdoor seating that seems to be Crème's USP. Informal looking furniture and seating against low walls gives you enough place to stretch your legs out. There is ample place for everybody and no one seems to be in a hurry to leave. Neither do you get anxious looks from the servers to do so! Even though the main road is only a few meters away, you don't get to inhale any fumes— just the amazing aroma of coffee and the strange feeling of being in an Italian street side café. If you're looking for a place to soak in the ambience with great grub and coffee on the side, Barista Crème is the place to be.
