Revellers from town who have been to Taika on Church Street in Bangalore are sure to come home with fond memories of the place - marble tanks with lotus leaves and candles afloat as an idea of a bar counter and more water bodies across various levels brimming with rose petals and more candles. Music obviously is ambient lounge to go with a few pints, played in low decibels just right for a chinwag.
And now the twin cities can boast of a similar hub as the hookah and rest of royal repast paraphernalia suddenly makes way for a lounge drenched in drama. Ahala, named after Roman hero Gaius Servilius Ahala, the officials say it bears no connection to the person albeit, this swanky new addition to town boasts of three bars spread complete with a deejay console attached with a wooden floor. Find the in house deejay DJ Deej spinning lounge and house and sometimes hip-hop.
About the ambience, one is pleasantly surprised with the seating that draws a perfect line between space and warmth. Though it takes a few minutes and one visit to compare and contrast the place with the earlier T-2 here. Jazzy strobes and deep tones of the earlier discotheque in this very spot are prominent by their absence. Just enough candela and a generous helping of subterranean environment. And a liberal helping of comfy cushions, chics and knick-knacks sourced from international craft bazaars. If the ambience takes your breath away, have a bite of the Pan-Asian cuisine here that is eclectic.
How about some Crabmeat rice noodles, Spaghetti Burmese or Mini falafel kebabs. Yet another USP is the list of speciality coffee. Check out the menu and you would be amazed to find that Long island iced tea is not the only liquor laced caffeine offering. Dark coffee strengthened with brandy, that is Café royale for you. Then there are frozen coffee flavoured with vodka and Bailey's or a simple cappuccino for that arty mood swings.
Incidentally the lounge plans to stage stand up comedy and more theatrical performances apart from promoting guest deejays and good music.
Opening at 6 p.m. and closing wee into the night, that's 2 a.m., the positioning is of one place to drink, dine and party. And network post work. Well at the moment the Hyderabadi celebrities have already found a new home here. With more lounge and jazz sound, say covers of Karunesh, the place will surely bring the happening tunnel back to the lounge. Is the disc jockey listening?
