Learn to write all over again

The pen was a very important invention for the fact that it allowed man to store documents that could be used for future consultation by him or his successors. What began as a feather with a sharp tip that would be dipped in ink to write, slowly evolved into pens made of wood, plastic, ball point pens, fountain pens and ink pens. Similarly, paper allowed man to store information too and the combination of pen and paper resulted in something historical. So when they are so important to man, why is it that most people turn to computers for all the written work they do?
An assignment is given in class, but there's nothing to worry about. Log on to Google, copy and paste all the information available, type your name and roll number in a Word document and take a printout of the whole thing. Simple enough! Teachers prefer students handing in printouts too. However, in the whole technological maze, the joy of touching pen to paper and producing something personalised in the means of handwriting is lost, something many people sadly relate to.
Do projects
Apoorva Natarajan, a Std. IX student from Oakridge International School, Gachibowli says, “We are often asked to get our projects printed. Though I find print-outs much neater than hand-written documents, I think if a person has time, they should write, rather than type and get printouts. As students, we are aware that teachers may not have the time to read a full assignment so we resort to copy-pasting from the internet and tend to think that good decoration can help us score well.”
“The main issue here is that creativity is lost with the increasing dependence of students on the internet.
With time being a major factor for not being able to write, students download information from websites and get it printed. Even if one is told to submit a hand-written project, the information is still from the internet”, says Mrs. M. Lakshmi Gowri, an English teacher from Jubilee Hills Public School, Jubilee Hills.
In what ways can we tackle the situation? ”Two ways to counter this phenomenon are: Reading, so that children learn new facts and words and giving work that can be written in class and handed over immediately.” she concludes.
