Did you know that tea and coffee plantations have taken over the entire Western Ghat rain forests which block the elephant corridors leading to elephant deaths?
Chimpanzees and human beings are as closely related as 99.9 per cent of the genetic system.
India the only geographical boundary within which both lions and tigers co-exist and that Indian wildlife is the most diversified in the world.
To spread awareness on more such animal facts, Tree Foundation, an organisation which promotes tree research education and exploration globally initiated a volunteering programme “Anipal” in Hyderabad.
As part of this programme, volunteers as young as eight years old visited the Nehru Zoological Park to spread awareness and empathise with the animals and to spread the message of love towards animals and civic behaviour in the zoos.
Collect facts
“This exercise is important because it makes one feel more human,” says Arun Krishna, India coordinator, Tree Foundation. The volunteers collect people at the animal enclosures and create awareness about the importance of the rare and unknown facts about these animals.
Children and adults who have been a part of this programme were enthusiastic and keen to learn many more things.
Children from Std. II of Sri Chaitanya Techno School echo: “We will tell our parents not to drink coffee and tea as the home of Elephants are being destroyed to give us tea and coffee”
Apart from this, Tree Foundation conducts many programmes for children and adults all over the country to spread awareness about various aspects of the environment.
Interested volunteers can sign up.
