Blue Cross puts the onus on MCH
Saturday, 31.03.2007, 05:12pm (GMT+5.5)

             Amala Akkineni

Amala Akkineni of Blue Cross has maintained that the municipal bodies should immediately address the Animal Birth Control (ABC) issue since NGOs like hers are not equipped to deal with it.

"We need to take the programme to other municipalities and if Greater Hyderabad is formed, there is no proper infrastructure in place to take up sterilisations and anti-rabies vaccinations," she told presspersons here on Friday.

Ms. Amala pointed out that MCH had cancelled ABC contract with Blue Cross in 2001 after an incident of attack by stray dogs. "We had neutered 45,000 dogs for five years before our agreement was cancelled.

They went back to killing for two years," she said.

The association with the corporation was renewed three years ago but with no financial support. So, the Blue Cross had agreed to take up ABC programme in select localities instead of doing it on dogs picked up at random from different localities.

Blue Cross has been undertaking the ABC programme in Ameerpet, Yousufguda, Borabanda and Jubilee Hills where Ms. Amala claimed that there was not a single case of dog bite from strays.
