New A.P. Governor gets down to business
Tuesday, 29.12.2009, 10:46am (GMT+5.5)

Chhattisgarh Governor E.S.L Narasimhan, who has been given additional charge of Andhra Pradesh, takes oath at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday. Chief Minister K. Rosaiah is seen at left.

HYDERABAD: The new Governor of Andhra Pradesh, E.S.L. Narasimhan, got down to business immediately after assuming office by reviewing the law & order situation in the State with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and the police top brass at the Raj Bhavan on Monday. Mr. Narasimhan also issued an appeal to the people to strive to enrich the State and ensure that the fruits of development reached the needy. Andhra Pradesh, he said, had been a shining example to the entire nation for the amity and tolerance. “I am proud to be associated with the State and fervently hope that its legacy will continue and deepen.”

The Governor said he was honoured to be associated with the vibrant State and its people. The State had successfully harnessed its mineral resources and made great strides in pharma and health sectors and emerged as the hub of IT/ITES and achieved international recognition, a press communiqué issued by Raj Bhavan quoted him as saying. Within three hours of being sworn-in, Mr. Narasimhan earlier held a meeting with the Chief Minister, Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Director General of Police R.R. Girish Kumar, Additional DGP (Law & Order) A. K. Khan and IG (Intelligence) M. Mahender Reddy. Sources said Mr. Narasimhan, a former Director of Intelligence Bureau, put searching questions to them about the current political situation and steps taken to maintain public tranquillity.

Earlier, Chief Justice of A.P. High Court A. R. Dave administered the oath of office to Mr. Narasimhan (63) at a solemn function at Raj Bhavan where the media was not allowed access. Representatives of Opposition parties, who often give such ceremonial functions a miss, were present. Among them were Y. Ramakrishnudu and M. V. Mysoora Reddy (TDP, Eatala Rajender (TRS) and J. Ranga Reddy (CPI-M).

Leaders who called on the Governor said Mr. Narasimhan heard them keenly and lent an impression that although he was holding office in addition to his duties as Chattisgarh Governor, he would devote considerable attention to his gubernatorial work in Andhra Pradesh.

His predecessor N. D. Tiwari, who resigned in the wake of a television expose, left the city at the break of dawn in a special aircraft to Dehra Dun in Uttarakhand.
