A.P. Governor’s help sought to halt State bifurcation

HYDERABAD: A delegation of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema legislators belonging to the Congress and the Praja Rajyam met Governor N.D. Tiwari at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and urged him to prevail upon the Centre not to bifurcate the State.
A representation submitted to the Governor drew his attention with “most pained hearts” to the decision taken by the Centre and announced by Union Home Minister P. Chidamabaram that the process of formation of separate Telangana had been initiated. They said people in all parts of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were in a highly agitated moodafter the Union Home Minister’s statement.
“A tense situation is prevailing in the State and the agitation for a unified Andhra Pradesh is increasing everyday.” The legislators from the Congress included J.C. Diwakar Reddy, T.G. Venkatesh, E. Pratap Reddy, Daggubatti Venkateswara Rao, S. Shailajanath, R. Padmaraju, G. Rudraraju, K. Srinivasulu and Tippeswamy. Vanga Geeta, Shobha Nagi Reddy, Kanna Babu and Sridhar Krishna Reddy were from the Praja Rajyam.
Mr. Diwakar Reddy explained to the Governor about the spate of resignations by MLAs and MLCs from the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. He said the TRS had secured only 10 Assembly seats in the region in the last elections and did not even contest the GHMC elections.
Memorandum
A delegation of ‘AP High Court Advocates Forum for Integrated AP’ called on the Governor separately and submitted a memorandum requesting him to take up with the Central government the “folly” of dividing the State.
