The GHMC was on course towards completing 30,000 of the 60,158 houses being planned for the weaker sections under the ‘Vambay’ and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Fund, said Commissioner S.P. Singh on Tuesday.
At a press conference here on the eve of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurating 12,000 houses constructed at Cherlapalli, he said that the 30,000 houses were in an “advanced stage” of construction. Besides, 12,000 other houses were also “almost completed” and 9,000 totally completed thus far.
Under ‘Vambay’, almost all the 6,608 houses were completed and in the next few days allotments would also be made. Dr. Reddy would also lay the foundation stone for construction of Qutbullapur housing scheme at Nizampet.
“We have made reasonably good progress despite facing many difficulties,” said the Commissioner and pointed out that the municipal corporation was taking care to provide the entire necessary civic infrastructure like internal roads, sewerage, water supply, parks, etc. Mr. Singh further claimed that all the identified beneficiaries were being taken to the housing sites to ascertain if they required any further amenities.
