Birla Science Centre inks pact with Italian government

B.M. Birla Science Centre here signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Italian government for construction of a science museum in the city of Udine in Italy. Signed on the sidelines of the two-day Indo-Italian workshop on ‘IT: Education, Research and Industry’, the MoU envisages construction of a science museum that would offer hands-on experience to the visitors, on the lines of the museum here, informed B.G. Siddharth, director of B.M. Birla Science Centre here.
The MoU was signed by the Mayor of Udine Furio Honsell and Mr. Siddharth. Earlier, the workshop was inaugurated by the Italian Ambassador to India Roberto Toscano. It will be followed by a three-day course in ‘Perspectives in Informatics’ for the B.Tech II, III and IV year students from October 19 onwards.
Lidia Szpyrkowicz, the Scientific Attache, Embassy of Italy explained scholarships and fellowships available at Italian universities for Indian students. About 200 annual research fellowships are available for foreign students, provided that the institution in India has an MoU with its counterpart in Italy, she said.
