Two long decades later, Hyderabad finally had its tryst with a giraffe on Wednesday. Brought from Delhi zoo last week, the long-necked animal was released for visitors by the Minister for Forests, Peddi Reddi Ramachandra Reddy, at the Nehru Zoological Park here on Wednesday afternoon.

Chilkur, the home of ‘Visa Balaji’, will soon be ‘plastic-free’, going by a pilot project initiated by the Temple Management Committee making available to thousands of devotees bags made of handloom cloth supplied by APCO.
Vulture breeding centre at zoo

Coming in the wake of concerns over decline in the vulture population, the vulture breeding centre at Nehru Zoological Park here is all set to become operational in a month’s time. The Rs. 41-lakh project with funds from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) is aimed at initiating captive breeding of the endangered white-backed vultures.

South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) is organising Nrityotsav – 2009, a two-day Indian Classical Dance festival. Ramadevi and her disciples from Sri Sai Nritya Academy of Kuchipudi dance will present a colorful dance ballet Sabarigirisha Saranam, on July 16 and dance dramas Bharatanatyam Margam and Devi Mahathyam on July 17.
